Texas fans are used to a big football recruiting haul in the spring. It’s not unusual for the Longhorns to have more than 20 commitments for the next season’s recruiting class by the time spring football practice arrives.

Things have changed. The Longhorns, usually the nation’s most successful team when it comes to selling the university on annual junior-day events, had their second junior day for the 2013 class on Saturday, and after landing zero commitments from the first junior day last month, Texas received pledges from just three prospects on Saturday.

LB Deounderi Davis of Cypress (Texas) Woods High, DE Daeshon Hall of Lancaster and WR Jacorey Warrick of Houston Cypress Falls finally gives the ‘Horns double-digit commitments with 10.

Much to the dismay of Texas fans, other teams seem to have taken the reins on the junior-day front, starting with rival Texas A&M, which now has 13 commitments, six of which cam from junior day. Michigan also had a big junior day response with eight commitments for a total of 13, as well, and then of course Florida head coach Will Muschamp, a former Longhorn assistant, landed six of his own commitments on junior day, and the Gators also hit double-digit pledges for 2013 with 10.

Florida State even had a nice junior day turnout this past weekend, with three 2013 commitments — WR Tony Stevens and LB Ro’Derrick Hoskins of Orlando Evans and Jacksonville First Coast safety Tyrone Lyons — and one 2015 commitment from Auburndale ATH Derwin James. FSU now has eight commitments for 2013.
